Uploading your Website
to our Windows Server
How do I upload my homepages to your windows server?
You will need to get a program that supports file transfer protocol
(ftp). You use this program to connect to gamera.host1.com.au
with your login name and password. Once you are connected to the
server, you can transfer your files up to the server, and they
will be visible to the world. We have setup instructions for ws_ftp
and cuteftp for PC, or you
can use Fetch or Anarchie for Macintosh. All these programs, and
many others, can be found at our Tucows
site.
When you connect to the windows server with FTP, you will see
four directories. You should upload your files into the "www"
directory, as that is where your virtual website has been setup.
The data directory can be used for putting access databases in
a location outside the root of your website. The cgi-bin directory
can be setup on request to handle perl scripts. Your raw logs
will appear in the LogFiles directory.
What is the server I need to connect to?
The server you need to connect to is gamera.host1.com.au
(or nt.cia.com.au or ftp.yourdomain.com.au).
Can I change file permissions using my FTP client?
No. The windows server will not allow you to change permissions
on files through your ftp client.
Can I use Microsoft Frontpage to publish my site?
Yes, if you have requested that Frontpage Extensions be installed
on your site. If you haven't already, you can email support@host1.com.au
to have Frontpage Extensions installed on your site. Once installed,
you can use Frontpage to publish to http://www.yoursite.com.au/
